My Book

~~~The Year That Hell Froze Over~~~
by Terrie Lynn
* Soon to be on the best seller list....and you guys are all lucky enough to read it here, first hand on FB. hehehe *
It was 53 in the house this morning, which is pretty darn fantastic considering it was - some stupid number you would not believe outside last night. Ha!
Anyway, one of our heaters chose now to decide to give up the ghost. We head to the tiny little Ace hardware.....oh silly me! Like I thought they would still have any heaters available. :P
So, over to the general store in Hadley to get some of the $4 boxes of wood for the stove thing. Bet you guys are smart enough to know where this is going before I write it, right? Y-e-e-e-s-s-s. All sold out. I don't know why I didn't buy all of it on Saturday. *hits hand on forehead* Silly me. As for heaters, they have been sold out of the good ones for months.....but....drum roll please.......they have some of the little ones with the red wires you see light up. Good. Got it to put over by the pugs at night when they are sleeping in their crate.
Were going to order a couple....says on the site, free next day shipping......well, except for where we live. It would be the 25th before they can get them here. So, my question....did I move to a foreign country or maybe the dark side of the moon or something?? Ha! We have to go to Vegas next week.....so we will just pick some up there.
Hadley is posting they have to shut the water off tomorrow to fix issues of freezing and stuff. So those in the little town are dealing with what we are. Somehow, that actually makes me feel better. In one of those weird ways.
  • Terrie Lynn Gelman By the way, wood burning stoves smell good.
  • Susanne Wolf Boyohboy... I honestly don't envy you. We had 5F last night when I looked at the thermometer but our gas heater is working, thankfully! Glad you have at least the woodburning stove, but those conditions are ridiculous. Your landlord is supposed to provide you with liveable conditions, that's what you're paying rent for. Granted, it's not his fault it's feckin' cold, but this can't possibly be the first winter he's encountered there! There should be all kinds of insulation wrap around the pipes to provide you with water, the septic tank is a joke, and the length it took for him to take care of you is outrageous. So he lives in Vegas. Big deal. This is the computer age. He could have gotten his behind on the phone and taken care of the issue. And if YOU guys can manage to go to Vegas once a month, I would imagine the road is open both ways and he can check things out on your end. I am so furious with your landlord it's not even funny! HOW you haven't flipped out yet is completely beyond me...
  • Terrie Lynn Gelman @Susanne, I am too cold and dehydrated to flip out. bwahahahahaaha. Still got my sense of humor tho.
    • Susanne Wolf In that case, allow me to flip for you. I hope this isn't the main contributing factor for your decision you made recently though.
    • Pam Lingle From the mouth of a true survivor!
    • Terrie Lynn Gelman Actually, we do have the central heater, but it is propane powered....we refuse to pay $300 a month for propane to keep it warm. The space heaters work just fine.....just for the record, also, we can simply go in one room and not worry about all the house at one time, if it really comes down to that. I could also put heavy blankets over the other windows....I just haven't done it to all of them, yet. I am NOT complaining.....just sharing the saga of living out here.
    • Terrie Lynn Gelman Thanks Pam. <hug>
    • Terrie Lynn Gelman Thanks Susanne <hug>
    • Susanne Wolf Still, you're paying for the use of a whole house, not just a room. Is electricity really that much cheaper than gas? You shouldn't have to sit there under heaps of blankets OR cover up the windows, quality of life is important! How are you supposed to scrap with a blanket over the window? I'm sorry, not trying to be Negative Nancy here, but I'm getting frustrated just hearing how you are expected to live, I know you're not complaining, but *I* am.
    • Terrie Lynn Gelman Yes, electricity is that much cheaper than propane. You are just saying the things we have thought about. The only thing is....it is what it is out here. I knew I was coming out here to the country.....I do admit I never expected it to be this hard and rural. So I can't complain.....just smile, hug Mitchell and get through it. This will be a great story some day.....
    • Pam Lingle A true adventurer too! I grew up with space heaters (actually the ones you lit up after turning on the gas!) I loved them. My sister and I would wake-up and run to the heater to get dressed. Stood in front of them till our legs turned red. Those were the days my friend!
    • Susanne Wolf And an inspiration! It's quite clear that I'm supposed to be learning something from you, I am amazed at how you handle yourself and keep the positiveness going. I am humbled, dearest friend!
    • Susanne Wolf Btw, when are you supposed to be leaving? Don't you DARE ignore this question, Missy!
